We sought to compare the outcomes of unrelated donor bone marrow transplant (UBMT) and HLA-haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation using PTCy (PTCy-haploPBSCT) using Japanese registry data. Since current guidelines for HCT recommend an HLA-allele-matched unrelated donor as the primary alternative to an HLA-matched sibling, we set HLA-A, -B, -C, and -DRB1 8/8-matched UBMT as the reference. While an unrelated donor peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT) program was initiated in 2010 in Japan, the number of involved patients remains small, and therefore bone marrow, which is the main stem cell source for HCT from unrelated donors, was selected as the control.
